Technical University of Moldova (UTM) hosted the official launch of the Erasmus+ KA2 project “Modernisation of Higher Veterinary Education to ensure Food Safety and Public Health in Moldova” — EDUVET — bringing together academic partners, national authorities, and European institutions around a shared commitment to reforming veterinary higher education in line with EU standards.

As the project’s coordinating institution, UTM opened the two-day Kick-off Meeting with welcoming remarks from Rector Prof. Dr. Hab. Viorel Bostan, who underlined the strategic importance of veterinary education for sustainable development, food safety, and public health in the context of Moldova’s European aspirations. Project coordination is led by Dr. Daniela Pojar, Vice-Rector for Finance and International Relations.

The event brought together representatives from Moldova’s key national bodies — the Ministry of Education and Research, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the National Food Safety Agency, and the National Erasmus+ Office — whose contributions highlighted the urgency of aligning veterinary training with European policy frameworks.

EDUVET is structured around five work packages spanning curriculum modernisation (WP2), lifelong learning course development in food safety and public health (WP3), the creation of a national One Health ecosystem (WP4), and dissemination and impact (WP5), all under the umbrella of project management and quality assurance (WP1).

The first day focused on the project’s governance structure, operational plan, and financial framework. The second addressed the Year 1 activity plan, key milestones, and monitoring mechanisms — including a presentation on financial management and Erasmus+ reporting procedures.

The consortium brings together seven institutions from Moldova, Romania, Spain, and Slovenia: UTM Chișinău, Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova, the College of Veterinary Medicine of the Republic of Moldova, the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca, the University of Zaragoza, the University of Ljubljana, and EPDRI Maribor.

The Kick-off Meeting concluded with a guided tour of UTM’s Mircești campus, offering partners a first-hand look at the institution’s educational infrastructure and applied research potential.

Running from November 2025 to October 2028, EDUVET represents a concrete step toward sustainable reform — built on cooperation, shared expertise, and a common vision for the future of veterinary education in Moldova.
